How much does Pilates cost in Kolkata?
This is the most-asked question about Pilates in this city and most studios answer it with 'contact us for pricing'. Here are the numbers, what makes one format cost three times another, and how to compare packages without being caught out by the small print.
The short answer
- In Kolkata listings checked in 2026, group mat classes were advertised at roughly ₹600 to ₹1,200 a drop-in class, less per class inside packages. Group reformer classes cost more. Private one-to-one reformer sessions are the most expensive tier. Prices change — check directly.
- At Renovo a single private reformer session is ₹1,700. Four sessions are ₹7,500 and eight are ₹13,000.
- Of those, only the eight-session package costs less per session than a single. The four-session package costs ₹700 more than booking the same four sessions individually.
- The gap between formats is driven by equipment cost and by how many people share the instructor, not by the method being different.
- Compare cost per session you will actually attend, not the sticker price on the package. The expiry window is where packages quietly get expensive.
What Pilates costs in this city
Pilates pricing in Kolkata is not one market, it is three, and comparing across them is how people end up confused.
Group mat classes
The cheapest tier. In Kolkata listings we looked at in 2026, advertised drop-in mat rates ran roughly ₹600 to ₹1,200, with lower per-class rates inside monthly or block packages. No equipment beyond a mat, so a studio can fit a lot of people in a room.
Group reformer classes
More expensive than mat, because every person in the room needs a machine and the machines are a serious capital purchase. Class size is capped by how many reformers a studio owns and how much space it has to put between them, which in practice means small.
Private one-to-one sessions
The most expensive tier, because you are buying an instructor's undivided hour rather than a share of it. This is what Renovo does, and a single session is ₹1,700.
The mat range above is an informal snapshot of advertised rates, not a market survey, and prices change. Ring the studios you are actually considering.
Why the gap between formats is so large
It helps to look at what a studio is actually selling. The cost of running a session is mostly the instructor's hour plus a share of rent and equipment. What changes between formats is how many people that cost is divided between.
A mat class splits one instructor-hour between as many people as fit in the room. A reformer class splits it between however many machines the studio owns, each of which is a serious capital purchase and takes up roughly the footprint of a single bed plus room to work around it. A private session splits it one way.
So a private reformer session costing several times a group mat class is not a premium for a better method — it is the same method with a different denominator. That is worth understanding, because it tells you what you are actually paying for: attention, and the equipment being available to you alone.
Instructor training is the other real variable, and the one hardest to see from outside. Requirements differ enormously by provider: comprehensive programmes typically run to several hundred hours of coursework, practice and observation, while much shorter courses also exist. Pilates qualifications are issued by private training organisations rather than under a single India-wide statutory standard, so the only way to know is to ask what training the person teaching you has actually done. It is a fair question and any good studio will answer it plainly.
Renovo's prices, with the arithmetic done
Private one-to-one reformer sessions in Ballygunge. There is no group option and no mat option.
| What you buy | Total | Per session |
|---|---|---|
| Single session | ₹1,700 | ₹1,700 |
| 4 sessions | ₹7,500 | ₹1,875 |
| 8 sessions | ₹13,000 | ₹1,625 |
Doing that division is the useful part, and we would rather put it on the page than let you work it out afterwards. Only the eight-session package lowers the cost per session below the single-session rate. The four-session package does not: four single sessions cost ₹6,800, so the four-session package is ₹700 more than buying the same four sessions individually. If four is all you want, book them as singles.
Packages must be used within 28 days of the first session and are non-refundable. Cancel at least 3 hours before a session and the credit returns to the pack; inside 3 hours, the session still counts. The full terms, including the cancellation policy, are on the pricing page and in the cancellation policy. Read the expiry window before buying eight sessions; at two a week, eight sessions is four weeks with nothing spare for a work trip or a cold.
How to compare studios without being caught out
Sticker price is the least informative number in this decision. Six questions that matter more:
- What is the cost per session I will actually attend? Take the package total, divide by the number of sessions you will realistically get to inside the expiry window — not by the number printed on the package.
- When does it expire, and what happens then? A short window turns a discount into a penalty for anyone with an unpredictable schedule. Ask whether unused sessions are lost, extended, or refunded.
- How many people share the instructor? "Reformer Pilates" covers both a private hour and a class of ten. The price difference is large and so is the product.
- What are the cancellation and rescheduling terms? How much notice, and what happens if you are ill. This is where the real cost of a package shows up.
- How long is a session? Fifty minutes and seventy-five minutes are both sold as "a session". Compare per hour, not per booking.
- What training does the instructor have? Not the studio — the person who will be in the room with you.
What you should actually spend
Whether exercise does anything for you depends mostly on whether you keep doing it for months. So the right amount to spend is the amount you can sustain without thinking about it, rather than the maximum you can manage for one enthusiastic month. A format you can afford and attend consistently is likely to be worth more to you than a more expensive one you abandon in February.
Private one-to-one work is worth paying more for when there is a specific reason a group setting will not work: an injury or operation to train around, a postnatal return, a diagnosis with restrictions attached, or a history of not being able to follow group classes well enough to get anything from them. Those are real reasons and they are why this studio exists.
If none of those apply and money is tight, start with a group mat class. And if what you actually have is a diagnosed problem, spending your first money on a physiotherapy assessment will tell you more than spending it on any exercise class, ours included.
